Starting today, Alejandro Mena is the new Director of ENAIRE’s Balearic Islands Region. The new director began his career at ENAIRE as an air traffic controller in 2003 at the Barcelona Control Centre, where he held various operational positions in En Route and Approach, and as an instructor in the Barcelona Terminal Control Area (TMA).
In 2015, he took over as head of the Regional Operational Safety Department in the Eastern Region, and he has been a representative on the Air Traffic Incident Study and Analysis Committee (CEANITA).
In the last three years, he worked at EUROCONTROL, the European organisation for air navigation safety, assigned by ENAIRE.
Initially, he was the coordinator between ENAIRE and the Network Manager, and he was subsequently appointed by the Civil Aviation General Directorate (DGAC) as Spain’s liaison officer at EUROCONTROL, reporting both to ENAIRE and the DGAC.
Mena has a degree in Civil Marine (Ship Engines) from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and is an Engineer 2nd class in the Merchant Marine. In 2013-14, he completed his Executive Master’s degree in Business Administration at the IESE Business School (University of Navarra-Barcelona).
