NASA images confirm that the ash cloud is moving across the Mediterranean towards the Balearic Islands

The consequences of the devastating fire that has burned more than 7,000 hectares in Vall d’Ebo since last Saturday are visible from space. The images taken today by NASA’s Terra satellite clearly show the dense column of smoke caused by this forest fire.

The plume of smoke advances as the mountain burns. Winds are pushing the smoke toward the coast, and as you can see, it has already crossed the coastline. The dense smoke is moving towards the Balearic Islands, especially Ibiza and Formentera. If the winds do not change, it is likely that the clouds of smoke and ash will reach the Pitiusas in a few hours.

At the moment, the fire has already forced five other municipalities to evacuate and is approaching the border with the province of Valencia. In fact, 1,000 people have already been evacuated from a housing estate in Villalonga.
