The call “Inclusive and accessible sport” is open to companies that develop space-enabled applications and services in order to reach the following specific goals as defined by ESA: enhancing the performance of athletes, building their resilience, promoting digital engagement for all (players, trainers, and public) and supporting the creation of inclusive and accessible sports equipment.

These objectives must be achieved through digital technologies directly connected with space resources, such as satellite communications, satellite navigation, positioning and training, and satellite earth observation. During the open debate sessions of the webinar, participants will have the opportunity to discuss their project ideas.

ESA has established this tender with the aim of promoting inclusivity and accessibility in the field of sport through the new horizons that spacial technology can offer. Since the pandemic has brought a change in society’s lifestyle, the sports industry suffered its consequences more than other sectors. The scientific and technical knowledge that ESA implements can bring new opportunities to overcome today’s sport challenges. EPSI will contribute to ESA’s efforts by further promoting the call within the sports ecosystem.

The European Space Agency (ESA) is Europe’s gateway to space. Its mission is to shape the development of Europe’s space capability and ensure that investment in space continues to deliver benefits to the citizens of Europe and the world. EPSI, in turn, focuses on innovation in the areas of sport, physical activity, healthy lifestyle, vitality, environment, and all related impacted sectors.

EPSI strives to achieve more innovation-friendly conditions for the EU sports ecosystem, in order to stimulate technological innovation and to develop businesses with a focus on the entire innovation spectrum.

This webinar is part of the joint efforts of ESA and EPSI for supporting purposeful innovation in the sports industry through the Memorandum of Intent they have signed. The call for proposals is currently open until the 20th of January 2023.
